For some people, home is a structure. Others see it as the spouse, children, life inside the structure. Still, others view home as a place for the rituals of life — breaking bread, reflection, learning, love.
What we can all agree on is that home feels good. It is what we need when we need it. But how we define home is a deeply personal endeavor; it will not look the same to each person. But if we hope to grow our homes, we must have a clear vision. So I start here with conceptual idealism.
Sometimes I catch a glimmer of my vision manifested, but really these written visions remind me of what is most important to me, especially in times of disillusionment and major decision-making. I return to my visions for direction and attempt to embody them in my daily life.
As we progress through the ages and stages of life, our vision will morph.
Here, I offer my vision for my home and encourage you to borrow my ideas if they speak to you. But ultimately, you are the author of your own vision. Define it and embark.
